Yes! Most of the food bloggers that work with Chicory also work with ad networks.
We do not compete with any ad networks as these are different ad placements. In fact, if you are a Mediavine blogger, please visit this FAQ for instructions on how to enable Chicory right within your Mediavine Dashboard under the “Mediavine Publisher Network” section!
-
Yes! While the default color of our Recipe Activation Button is our brand purple, we encourage our publisher partners to customize the Chicory experience to create a better experience for your readers. By aligning the Recipe Activation CSS to your blog's color schemes and font choices, the button will feel more native to your visitors and thus likely increase engagement!
If you’re interested in customizing the button, please reach out to us! Our publisher support team will enable the settings for you to start customizing.
While you’re free to customize the button in a multitude of ways, we recommend making sure that your font and color combination keeps the button ADA-compliant using tools like Experte or other accessibility checkers.

Once you add Chicory’s code to your site, our crawler is triggered upon pageview. Therefore, any new recipes will need to be viewed once before our crawler can parse out any ingredients, and therefore inject our ads and the Chicory button. Be patient! This might take up to an hour after your view the recipe. If you don’t see the button ads appear within in an hour, your formatting or recipe structure might not be up to Chicory’s standards. Please visit this FAQ for more information on recipe formatting and structures.

Chicory has a dedicated WordPress plugin that makes it easy to install Chicory with your WordPress site! Simply download the Chicory WordPress plugin and add it to your “plugin” settings. Please find our WordPress plugin and instructions here.
However, we also support 5 total WordPress Plugins:
-
For our technology to function properly, we require that your recipe content be marked up and formatted according to schema.org’s guidelines.
Recipe formatting uses rich HTML markup in order to structure your content in a way that search engines can better designate as “recipe content.” Using tags means that your content can be tagged as a recipe by search engines. Then, your recipes will be displayed in more engaging ways in a variety of contexts, which has been proven to increase conversions to your site. Examples include Google rich snippets and Rich Pins on Pinterest. Plus, this best practice is standard for site health, similar to adding alt tags to your images or “no-follows” to sponsored links.
With this markup, Chicory can also better parse your recipes and match items to products in-store. By tagging something as <ingredient> with a proper <measure>, we can make the most efficient and accurate matches possible.
If your site is hosted by WordPress, you can download recipe plugins, such as WordPress Recipe Maker. These plugins will handle all of the markup and formatting when you use their platform to create your recipe content.
If you would rather not install a plugin on your site or can not install a plugin, you can use a tool like RecipesSEO to write your recipe content or you can reference Schema.org/Recipe to mark up recipes on your own in your HTML editor. Schema.org gives guidelines on how to implement this structure to your site.

If you’re seeing the button on pages where it shouldn’t be, please check to make sure the Chicory code is not implemented on that page. An easy way to do this is to right-click -> inspect page -> console -> search -> Chicory.
If you see the Chicory code on this page, simply remove it from your site settings. If this doesn’t work, feel free to reach out to publishers@chicory.co.

Chicory does not issue 1099s directly, this should all be handled by PayPal.

You can check if you are opted out completely from Chicory Premium by logging into your Chicory dashboard and heading to My Account. If “Opt me out of Chicory Premium” is selected, you are indeed opted out of all campaigns.
We do not suggest opting out of Chicory campaigns completely as this will cause a significant drop in any Chicory earnings.
If you are working with Chicory through our Mediavine partnership integration and think campaigns may be turned off on your site, you must contact publishers@chicory.co in order to update these settings.
-

When you install Chicory on your recipe blog, you’ll benefit from two of our products on your site.
Chicory’s Recipe Activation solution enables your audience to seamlessly cart ingredients for full recipes at 70+ integrated retailers. Our Shoppable Recipe Button appears below the recipe card and can be customized to your branding.
Chicory Premium is what we call our hyper-relevant, in-recipe ads. These can also be shoppable! There are two types of Chicory Premium Units.
Premium In-line ads promote products any time they appear as ingredients across our network.
Premium Pairings ads align brands with recipes based on lifestyle, occasion, seasonality and more.
-
With no minimum requirements to join our network of recipes, installation is simple.

Chicory automatically detects your formatted recipes and places our widget, the “Get Ingredients” button, in your recipe card. Our technology is triggered by site traffic. So once a recipe is viewed by a site visitor, our technology will start to appear.
The rest of your recipes will enter our system as users “ping” those recipes, or load those pages. It may take some time for all of your recipes to import, but as long as that first recipe publishes, rest assured that getting the button on all of your posts is just a matter of time!

Blogging partners who are working with Chicory directly will be paid in full, every month, on a net-60 schedule. In order to receive a payment, the email associated with your PayPal account must be entered into your Chicory dashboard in the My Account tab. All payments will be sent out through PayPal unless otherwise discussed.
If you are a Mediavine blogger using Chicory, your payments will come via Mediavine, on Mediavine’s payment schedule. All questions regarding payments should be directed toward publishers@mediavine.com
If you once worked directly with Chicory, but have switched to using Chicory via Mediavine, any existing balance on your Chicory account (the money accumulated prior to your switch) will be paid to you by our team during the next pay period.
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to publishers@chicory.co.
You can also find more details stated in our terms.

There are a few ways to customize your Chicory Premium settings and preferences. If you’re a Mediavine blogger, please reach out to publishers@mediavine.com for any adjustments and opt-outs. Otherwise, the options are as follows:
Full opt-out: If you wish to remove all current and future campaigns from your site, you can disable ads by logging into your dashboard, heading to “My Account” and selecting “Opt me out of Chicory Premium.” If you are not sure that opting out of all campaigns is right for you, please reach out to publishers@chicory.co. Note that this will affect your earnings.
Campaign-based opt-out: This option is best if you need to opt out of advertisements based on the brand being promoted. Perhaps we are working with Banana Brand X, but you’re a brand ambassador for Branded Bananas, Inc. Let us know via email and we can handle this opt-out for the specific brand campaign in question.
Campaign category opt-out: This tool allows you to select food and ingredient categories that you would like to exclude from running on your site. Campaign tags denote ingredient categories such as — but not limited to — meat, alcohol or dairy. We offer these options so that, for example, if you’re a vegan food blogger, you never need to worry about opting out of a milk or chicken ad campaign. If you have these settings up-to-date, there is no need to follow up each month when new campaigns launch. Category exclusions will remain in place until you update them. To update your settings, log into your Chicory dashboard, select “Ad Settings” and choose which tags you would like to exclude.
Specific post opt-outs: If you have a sponsored post or specific recipe that you do not want Chicory Premium ads appearing on, just send the link to publishers@chicory.co. We will deactivate all Chicory Premium campaigns on that post.Item description
