Every day that we use Pinterest, we discover another cool feature or trick that we could use to boost our SEO and show the world how awesome our recipe partners are. We have a profile with a decent following, plus our group board is among our blogging partners' most valuable group boards. However, before, er, a year ago, we were total newbies.

So, as new Pinterest users ourselves, we thought we'd round up a list of things to keep in mind as you put together boards, pins and change up the layout of your page.

Place Your Most Popular Boards at the Top of Your Page

When pinners land on your page, they can only see 5 boards without having to scroll down. These pins should be your most viewed boards, the ones you pin to the most to, the most aesthetically pleasing, and the ones that reflect your blog's style the most. That's a lot of factors that go into the perfect board, so work towards checking all of the boxes. This is an easy way to capture the attention and hopefully pique their curiosity to continue browsing.

Make Sure to Name Your Photos

Without a name your pins will never be discovered in the search function. Pins without a name can only be seen if someone scrolls through the board where you've pinned that photo. When naming your photo files, be sure to be highly specific with the title of the recipe. Naming your photo “beer can chicken with baked potatoes” will get more views than “chicken and potatoes.” The more keywords in your name the easy the picture will be to discover. And if you name your photo files, the upload of those photos to your site will contain those titles already. 

Link Your Page and Pins Back to Your Blog

Here’s a scenario: Julie is searching through Pinterest and stumbles upon your page with tons of beautiful and yummy photos of home baked goods. She wants to know where she can find more recipes and wants to bake some. Julie looks to the top of your page and sees your blog is not linked to your page and neither are your pins. Linking your blog is a simple process completed through the edit pin option. Go back and do this for any non-linked pins. And to make this simpler moving forward, pin directly from your website.

Make Your Pinterest Handle the Same as your Blog Name

This is very important for branding purposes. When people switch between your social media sites and your blog, they should consistently see the same name. This is not only important on Pinterest, but on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram as well.

Pin Often and Track Your Success

We've heard of some bloggers who pin up to 80 times per day! We don't pin quite this much, but the numbers don't lie: the more pins, the more followers and traffic to your site. Make sure to balance your pins with pins from others and queue up lots of content as much as possible.
